Yet to get a Visa

June 28, 2008

Well,

Saw the Hulk today, great movie although I wish that there was more character development, rather than simply  constant sequences of the Hulk battling it out with the military. It would have been nice if they focused more on the Hulk fighting his arch-nemesis.

That aside, my main priorities at the moment will be to get a Visa for China, which I have to do on monday since the Chinese government have decided to make this situation painful, for some reason. This will be an interesting trip for travelling, but it will also be valuable in finalizing goals; one thing that might be useful will be to determine what to do with my ticket, whether I should change my return to an earlier date, and what kind of interviews will take place in China. Considering that my only opportunity at the moment is related to this “HP GSC Dalian office” that may be my only choice. The pros of the opp are that it involves HP, and that it could give me a degree of management experience. The cons are that the salary is low, being away from the family, and also that it might turn out to be just another teaching job. Considering that I have graduated, I feel that the time is coming to step it up a notch, but how exactly. ..

My other options could involve talking with eric fang in Beijing, which may open up some great leads. An alternative choice would involve staying at home, interviewing with my fathers, brothers friends, and looking to find a job in the Bay Area. There is no doubt that there are many profitable job opportunities in this area, but in terms of excitement potential, I feel that it is extremely low, and in terms of learning potential, or friend potential, that is also extremely low. If my goal is to achieve a higher degree of learning, China may be a choice for me. One thing that has been interesting to me in China is microfinance, which involves supporting starting poverty, or even better perhaps attempting to start bookstores in rural parts of China. Of course, on the negative, this seems to be overly self-indulgently charitable, and it also may be useless considering that the whole place is urbanizing, and thirdly why don’t I just help with impovrishment in America. Well to explain those three, I am interested in China, its development, and would rather not settle down in a situation, which seems to be my current conundrum.

In terms of developing a plan to gain greater knowledge, experience, and foothold in China, HP seems my best option at the moment, although I might try to study language and business at a university, or find other options for improving my knowledge. At home, I am not in any situation of major need or poverty, and do not need to support an ailing family, but would not mind being a positive contributor. In addition, my money is going to start running out soon, so only making 20k a year will not be extremely beneficial. In China it would be very nice perhaps, but it seems that it would be most nice to achieve or imagine a goal which could supersede all other goals. Anyways, these are some of my first ramblings after graduating, so hopefully they will not be too confusing.

Obviously as the young bachelor that I am at the moment, with the usual overabundance of free time on my hands, it will be helpful for me to travel with friends, but what else … minnesota, life, politics?
