So, first of all managed to complete a hike two days in a row, so well into the process of getting some sort of a habit started – - haven’t been doing complete runs, but rather, a combination of running and walk/hike, which has proved to stimulating and entertaining, following it up with a glass of watermelon juice or three makes the whole experience much better — one of the major things that I’ve noticed is that the actual process of refueling after the hike/run is an interesting one, because if I don’t drink enough fruit juice I usually end up tired (during an early day run) but for runs / hikes later in the day, I will generally be awake all night as a result of the exercise.
Second thing, I’ve been reading “7 habits of effective people” recently, and finding myself re-reading the preface and initial chapter over and over again to fully absorb it. The preface gives a summary of the different levels a person can go through from dependent to fully interdependent, and the author discusses how setting effective habits can be useful in creating an environment for doing this. In the first chapter, the author describes how being proactive is better than being reactive, as a way of dealing with life and creating progress. The main ideas are, that we need to focus on our areas of influence as opposed to areas of concern. The difference is, that our areas of influence are those in which we can make change, such as setting or changing habits or behaviors, while the areas of concern are those in which we expend our thoughts, but perhaps don’t actually do anything. For myself, I had somewhat of a hard time differentiating fully between my circle of influence and circle of concern, but I think examples of circle of concern might be, things we think about but that we will never do anything about etc. To really comprehend this fully, I think it is necessary first to be able to understand the current situation and goals that I have. For example, right now I’m considering looking at an apartment, but if I’m not sure that I’m going to be living in this area, than I have no need to think about the apartment until I can resolve the issue of where I’m going to live in terms of area. Anyways, that’s just an example that has come to mind, but I’m sure that there are many other possibilities out there.
